More Than a Million Volunteers Cleaned up Trash Weighing More Than 200 Boeing 737 Aircrafts

Around 1 million Let’s Do It! activists in 14 countries helped the planet become cleaner by participating in massive cleanup actions from April to June. Volunteers collected around 9000 tonnes of waste, equivalent to more than 200 Boeing 737 airplanes. Jérôme Scherer is bringing us the latest cleanup discussions, visions for the time after World Cleanup Day and much more. We are very excited to share with you our interview with Bea Johnson, author of the blog and bestselling book Zero Waste Home. Bea has been shattering preconceptions attached to a lifestyle of environmental consciousness through her blog and speaking tours. “People didn’t know what a zero waste lifestyle meant”, Bea recalls the public's view on her lifestyle back in 2000s: “you had to be a hippie living in the woods.” It wasn’t until a nine-page magazine spread with pictures of their family and their beautiful home was published that people started reaching out to them. Bea and her family soon became the faces of the zero waste lifestyle. What are the 5R’s of zero waste and in which order should they be implemented? A Million Bottles a Minute: World's Plastic Binge 'as Dangerous as Climate Change'

A million plastic bottles are bought around the world every minute and the number will jump another 20% by 2021, creating an environmental crisis some campaigners predict will be as serious as climate change. Figures obtained by the Guardian reveal the surge in usage of plastic bottles, more than half a trillion of which will be sold annually by the end of the decade. It's time to be the change!
